NaNoWriMo is still going strong here on my worn out laptop! I am loving every minute but sadly the minutes are few and far between and I am still a few laps behind most of the other thousands of novel writers across the globe. I just think big-ego thoughts like how those other writers typing so ridiculously fast they must be producing absolute rubbish, while my writing might be a little bit slower the bit of extra thought and effort that's slowing me down means my book will probably be literature of a standard NaNoWriMo has never witnessed before! But, deep down I know it's far (far) from it - 18,000 words in: my main character, a slightly dull mother in her 30s, has changed age three times, she also had a brother at the start of the book but about 7,000 words in he disappeared with no explanation from the author (not even a note), she 'sighs' quite a lot and she dramatically pulls her car in to the side of the road quite regularly - to have a mini melt down and bang her head off the steering wheel (why not?). Her sister is a little bit mad, the wild one. Um, now that I think about it, it's all a bit Fair City but I'll keep typing. They promise you (the NaNoWriMo brigade) that by the end you'll have laughed, cried, cringed and raised your eyebrows at what you can produce. We'll see. 18,200 words and counting....

Enjoyed your post. And by the way the changing age 3 times for your character a good message about motherhood. What I mean is, as a mother somtimes I feel the same age as my son (5) when we play together, sometimes I feel 92 (when he and juggling everything else has me exhausted) and sometimes I feel my age (the wrong side of 40 and supposed to be grown up but don't want to be)!!!! Keep the posts coming. Ali Davies
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't have the time, I love seeing people participate in NaNoWriMo and hearing about their struggles and triumphs through the journey. If it's anything like my senior thesis was, working under pressure has a way to bring out your best writing and worst writing all at the same time. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments! Keeps me going. Reckon my mother will feel about 95 tonight if she's anything like me. Sarah :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done for getting stuck into it! From what I've heard the novel people produce is more like a draft than a finished product. At least you'll have all the ideas out there. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi, well done & thanks for visiting my site and giving support. First time for me - it's fun but all a bit strange!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the range of emotions they warn us about but I have certainly raised the eyebrows a bit !!
Best of luck for the final furlongs.
Dude, you're doing well. I'm still in four digits. And as yet there's no actual plot, just exposition of my fantasy world. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! whereimbloggingfrom - you are only a couple of laps behind me, I've taken my eye off the ball this week with silly diversions so falling right behind
